Our program is designed primarily for Canadian residents, but we do have a number of places
available at the higher grade levels for students who enter Canada on a student visa. This
information will introduce you to the school, its programs, and its philosophy.
Academic Program and ESL Program
The level of English proficiency of any prospective student applicant is very important to us.
We believe that it is critical for a student to have English skills that will enable him or her to
participate fully while attending classes with English students. Each overseas student will undergo
language proficiency tests upon arrival at Yorkland. Depending on the results of these tests, the
student may be required to take English as a Second Language courses to improve their English
level.
A part-time ESL program is also available, designed to teach English to overseas students to a level that will prepare
them for the academic program at Yorkland and for successful university study when they graduate.
Admissions
If you feel you meet the basic criteria for admission to The Yorkland School, you will be
required to fill in the visa student application form and send it with a copy of your latest report
card to The Admissions Office at the school. We also require a letter of recommendation from
your current school principal. Contact TYS for an application. Or you
may download our information package and application form here.
Each student's application is processed individually on the basis of the information received.
Students visiting Toronto or enrolled in another Canadian secondary school may write our
English proficiency test and have an admissions interview at the school.
If the student meets the school's admissions requirements, a conditional letter of acceptance
will be sent to the student and family. A capital deposit of $1000, which is payable in addition to
tuition fees, must be received by the school before a letter of admission for immigration purposes
can be issued. This deposit reserves a place for the student in the appropriate class and will be
held by the school until the student leaves the school permanently and in accordance with the
school's refund policy.
Canadian Immigration requires that a student visa be processed in the country of residence,
not in Canada. However, the Immigration office in Toronto can issue a new student visa for a
student transferring from another Canadian school to our school.
We welcome your interest in The Yorkland School and trust that this information is helpful as
you proceed with your application.
