Curriculum

Bible

Daily Bible stories, hymns and prayer time encourage spiritual development. Weekly Bible memory verses which feature the letter of the week, are recited. Additional Bible emphasis at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter is enriched by extra books, artifacts and videos.

Language

Students develop listening skills and the ability to express ideas. Language is developed by listening to stories, following oral instructions and participating in informal conversations and structured group discussions. Children will learn to recognize upper and lower case letters and to phonetically identify words that begin with each letter. They begin to print letters and words in large primary print. Most read their classmates' names and some sight words, Rhyming words, opposites and prepositions are taught in context. Teachers record original stories dictated by students about their pictures.

Mathematics

Students learn to rote count to one hundred and rational count to thirty. They will learn to count by two's to thirty and by five's and ten's to one hundred. They will sort, match one to one, measure structures and classify objects such as buttons. They will identify and name squares, rectangles, circles, triangles, diamonds and ovals. Children will learn to recognize and print numerals to twenty. Thermometers, clocks, calendars and metre sticks are used. Time telling to the hour and half hour are introduced.
